THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT TODAY

We want to provide you with some follow-up information.

TOPICAL PRODUCT

  • Oil should remain in hair for at least one hour after application at the clinic. It is fine to leave it in longer.
  • Dimethicone is oil based and can be difficult to wash out of hair. For best results we recommend using our clarifying shampoo to fully wash it out. You may need to wash more than once to remove all residue.
  • Your Terminator comb should be cleaned thoroughly. Scrub the tines and under the rim of the comb (an old toothbrush works well) to ensure all old nits have been removed. We suggest holding the comb up to a light to check that it is completely clean.

HOME CLEANING

  • Clothing/Bedding: When you get home, wash and dry clothing, pillowcases, sheets and towels that treated family members have used in the last 24 hours.
  • Combs/Brushes/Hair Accessories: You can place them in a sealed plastic bag and into the freezer for an overnight stay.
  • Hats/Helmets/Stuffed Animals: Studies show that it is extremely rare for lice to be on anything other than human heads. That said, if it gives you peace of mind you can put soft items in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes. Anything that can’t be put in the dryer (such as a helmet), wipe it out and/or put it aside for 24 hours, just as a precaution.
  • Furniture/Carpet: While it is highly unlikely that there are lice in your carpet or on your furniture, vacuuming or using a sticky lint roller is your choice. It is recommended that you do not use pesticide sprays in your home as they will unnecessarily expose your household to harmful chemicals.
  • Pets: No need to worry about your animals. They can’t carry or transmit human head lice.

SCALP CONCERNS

  • We recommend a comb out at home about 2-3 days after your treatment in the clinic. It is not uncommon to find a few nits after treatment. These are dead and will not hatch.
  • Being itchy does not mean you still have lice. Itchiness is individual and can last for a week or more after treatment. Itching is especially common if you have been treated with other products or have had an infestation for an extended period of time.
  • Thinking about lice will make you itchy!

MOVING FORWARD

The best offense with lice is a strong defense:

  • Wear hair up, back or in a braid.
  • Use preventive products such as Lice Clinics of America Preventive Spray, Shampoo and Conditioner daily or when your child is with other children.
  • The only way to do subsequent lice checks is with the Terminator Nit Comb which is a professional-grade nit comb. We suggest a weekly check to keep future infestations at bay. Anything lice related will show up. White flakes are not lice!
